SUMMARY:Action : Bad Weather Rebels!
DESCRIPTION:*****UPDATE – ACTION POSTPONED UNTIL 14TH MARCH*****\n**** ACTION/EVENT SAT. 29TH – DETAILS BELOW **** \nActions Working Group has taken the difficult and frustrating decision to postpone the ‘We’re not Fossil Fools’ action until 14th March. We’re really sorry to have to do this\, but we feel this particular action design will not be effective or safe given the forecast high winds and potential rain. We understand that people might be frustrated\, but our task is to coordinate empowering\, rewarding and fun actions and we do not feel being stood on top of oil barrels with placards trying to engage windswept members of the public would be a good use of Rebel energy💚🙏 \nInstead we’re going to offer two options for the Rebellious!!! Both will involve meeting at the Buddhist Centre at 2pm. Option 1: Meet for a bit of social and discussion (the ‘Regen Rebels’ building community and get clued up!) ☕️🤓Option 2: Meet in wet weather gear to hit the streets regardless with flags\, banners\, pots/pans/spoons (to make a bit of noise if we want) and some generic leaflets to hand out. (the ‘Rainy Day Rebels’ getting out there just for the fun of it!)✊🇺🇳 \nAll Rebels welcome!!💚 We won’t let a bit of extreme weather stop us from strengthening XR Nottingham and getting our message out there!🌏💚 \nWe’re not Fossil Fools event link: https://www.facebook.com/events/483195679025132/

SUMMARY:Derby City Council\, Act on the Climate Emergency!
DESCRIPTION:Help support Derby rebels – email email hidden; JavaScript is required with your phone number if you want info on bus/trains and travelling together – or just turn up and we’ll see you in Derby!! \nOn 22nd May 2019\, Derby City Council declared a Climate Emergency in the city. \nSince then there has been no appropriate response to the emergency. Derby and Derbyshire have been devastated by flooding and yet there is still no urgent action by authorities. \nThe Council is allowing Highways England to go ahead with the A38 Works which will cause huge amounts of harm to Derby trees\, wildlife\, air quality and completely ignores the climate emergency. \nJoin us to demand Derby City Council ACT NOW on the climate emergency. \nBring placards if you have them and be prepared to make some noise! All welcome.

SUMMARY:XR Action: We are the Dead Canaries
DESCRIPTION:STOP THE EXPANSION OF BRADLEY OPENCAST COAL MINE. END COAL NOW. \nACTIONS: \nOn the 26-28th February\, XR Durham and XR North East invite you and rebels from across the UK to take a stand and join in the mass actions to shut down the Bradley Opencast Mine. This action is part of an escalating series of actions. \nWE NEED YOU! \nArrival Tues 25th: Public transport and shuttle buses to take people to accommodation from Durham and Newcastle stations. Some XR regions are providing transport directly. Further briefings on the days of action will be given at the accommodation. \nWed 26th – Fri 28th Feb during the daytime we will be at the mine with shuttle busses providing transport back to accomodation provided in the evenings.\nSat 29th Feb: Rebels to travel home. \nREGISTER FOR ACCOMMODATION \nXR will supply food and accommodation from the 25th of Feb through until the 29th. \nThere are indoor spaces for people to stay\, please register on the links below and state if you need a bed as opposed to floor space. Please contact again if you register a space but can no longer make it. \nWe need rebels to help with transport\, so please contact email hidden; JavaScript is required if you have access to a minibus or car. \n— \nNot content with attempts to destroy Druridge Bay to mine millions of tonnes of coal in Northumberland\, Banks Mining Group are now planning to expand their mining operations at the Bradley opencast coal mine in County Durham. \nWith coal power set to legally phase out in 2025 and just five operating coal power stations left in the UK\, we’re in the midst of a dangerous new coal mining scramble at the expense of our climate\, local communities and the natural environment. \nExtinction Rebellion North East are joining forces with the local community to stop the expansion of the coal mine by any means necessary. \nWe can’t do this without your help. \nWe’re planning an escalating campaign of peaceful nonviolent civil disobedience bringing together hundreds of local people and activists to take a stand. \nWhy are we doing this? \nThe local community have tried everything to stop this mine. Over 3\,000 people in Pont Valley logged planning objections to the mine\, 55\,000 petitioners demanded it’s rejection and Durham County Council rejected planning permission no less than three times before being overuled by the High Court. \nSince then\, Durham County Council have declared a Climate and Ecological Emergency. \nThe science is clear\, we must act fast\, end coal production in the UK and transition to a new green economy to avoid catastrophic climate change within our lifetimes. \nWhile fossil fuels wreak havoc on our climate\, their extraction is causing real pain right now. Residents of Pont Valley frequently complain of the misery of thick black and orange dust permeating their houses and their lungs\, of loud explosions and constant noise from the massive mining machines. \nLike community life\, the mine has utterly destroyed a sensitive habitat for a range of protected species including rare newts\, butterflies and birds – and damaged the continued prospects of the surviving species in the area. \nNine months ago the British Parliament declared a Climate Emergency. \nNow we are calling on the UK Government to end it’s support for Bradley opencast mine and to end coal production in the UK by 2025. \n— \nIMPORTANT LINKS \nPlease help us raise the necessary funds to support this event on our fundraising page: \nhttps://www.gofundme.com/f/2-stop-the-expansion-of-bradley-opencast-coal-mine \nTo sign the objection letter to the council please follow this link from the Coal Action Network. Durham County council has already received over 3000 objection letters\, please continue to send these in to raise the alarm: \nhttps://www.coalaction.org.uk/2019/12/object-to-banks-expansion \nFor accommodation during the action please register on this eventbrite link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/save-the-date-durham-26-28-february-tickets-90786351421 \nFor arts ideas think: YELLOW and BLACK \nFor canary making costume ideas please follow this link: \nhttps://www.dropbox.com/sh/t0ecqqwvmdpiv6w/AADVP0ptKfJvXNKteWmbG6hHa?dl=0&fbclid=IwAR225PNrn-L8wwrH7CI0LVv9PD0l6scJs30jw3MFqCvFyaeQO66IxSqBK0k&preview=XR_DeadCanaries_CostumeMaking_V1.pdf

But just how bad are things really? And what can we do about it? \nThe planet is in ecological crisis. We are in the midst of the sixth mass extinction event this planet has experienced. \nScientists believe we may have entered a period of abrupt climate breakdown. This is an unprecedented global emergency. Our children and our nation face grave risk. \nMembers of Extinction Rebellion Nottingham will share the latest climate science on where our planet is heading\, discuss some of the current psychology around climate change\, and offer solutions through the study of social movements. \n***Please note this event is independently-funded and organised for Nottinghamshire citizens\, with speakers from Extinction Rebellion (a climate activism movement and pressure group). Contact the Event Organiser if you would like further info or clarification.***

SUMMARY:Doing Hope Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A small group workshop to help support the emotional response to the climate and ecological crisis. \nThe workshop is being held in Beeston\, Nottingham and tickets are available on EVENTBRITE \n“Of all the dangers we face\, from climate chaos to nuclear war\, none is so great as the deadening of our response.” Joanna Macy\nIn the face of overwhelming social and ecological crises\, “The Work That Reconnects” helps people transform despair and apathy into constructive\, collaborative action. It brings a new way of seeing ourselves within the world as our larger living body. \nThis perspective encourages us to question the assumptions and attitudes that now threaten the continuity of life on Earth. We can choose to align with business as usual which is threatening so many living systems\, or adapt to a life-sustaining society. The latter takes work\, and sometimes the challenges can feel overwhelming. \nDoing Hope is an experiential workshop developed by Clare Bonetree\, inspired by Joanna Macy’s “The Work that Reconnects” and is informed by trauma recovery work. \nLed by experienced group facilitators Jessie Cooke and Ian Coleman\, the workshop is based on Joanna Macy’s Active Hope Spiral that includes four stages: \n\ngrounding in gratitude\nacknowledging what grieves us and brings us low\nfinding a new way to see through a lens of hope\ncommitting to go out into the world renewed\n\nMost importantly\, we do this together. \nThe workshop is being held in Beeston\, Nottingham and tickets are available on EVENTBRITE
