DESCRIPTION:In the face of overwhelming social and climate crisis\, Joanna Macy’s ‘Work That Reconnects’ helps us transform despair\, loss and anger into constructive\, collaborative action. \nThis workshop is now being run online using Zoom and this is link to the meeting (info about using Zoom is below)\nhttps://zoom.us/j/959420846 \nThis workshop will be based on Joanna Macy’s ‘Work That Reconnects’ but also will act as an opportunity for people to connect and share. \nFor anyone who wants to connect with and explore the sometimes deep feelings that can be associated with awareness of the climate emergency and our work as activists. The workshop is based on Joanna Macy’s Active Hope Spiral and provides a safe\, structured environment in which you will be supported in reflecting on your experience and moving from an emphasis on gratitude to a renewed sense of hope. Most importantly\, we do this together. \nThe workshop will be led by experienced group facilitators Jeannie Thompson and Ian Coleman and provides an opportunity for those who have already participated in the introductory\, Doing Hope workshop to further deepen their experience. DESCRIPTION:ACTIONS WORKING GROUP UPDATE: ‘We’re not Fossil Fools’ action postponed. \nActions WG took this difficult decision based upon worries about the effectiveness of the planned action given the backdrop of the rapidly unfolding Covid19 situation. We also felt that we did not have the time to develop the delicate and nuanced messaging required for an alternate action design. \nWe’re really frustrated as this is the 3rd time we have postponed. Some XR regions are providing transport directly. Over 3\,000 people in Pont Valley logged planning objections to the mine\, 55\,000 petitioners demanded it’s rejection and Durham County Council rejected planning permission no less than three times before being overuled by the High Court. \nSince then\, Durham County Council have declared a Climate and Ecological Emergency. \nThe science is clear\, we must act fast\, end coal production in the UK and transition to a new green economy to avoid catastrophic climate change within our lifetimes. \nWhile fossil fuels wreak havoc on our climate\, their extraction is causing real pain right now. To arm local people with facts they can share with neighbours\, friends and family. To\nconsider what we can do about this in Nottinghamshire. \nClimate change is often in the news. But just how bad are things really? And what can we do about it? \nThe planet is in ecological crisis. We are in the midst of the sixth mass extinction event this planet has experienced. \nScientists believe we may have entered a period of abrupt climate breakdown. This is an unprecedented global emergency. Our children and our nation face grave risk. \nMembers of Extinction Rebellion Nottingham will share the latest climate science on where our planet is heading\, discuss some of the current psychology around climate change\, and offer solutions through the study of social movements. \n***Please note this event is independently-funded and organised for Nottinghamshire citizens\, with speakers from Extinction Rebellion (a climate activism movement and pressure group).
