DESCRIPTION:Non-Violent Direct Action Training\nwith Jeannie from XR Nottingham \nSplit into bite-sized chunks! \n👉Part One (part two will follow at a later date) \nDiscover what NVDA is all about\, why XR choose this method of action.\nFind out about how you personally feel about taking part. \nThis interactive training is essential for all members of XR. It will help you understand the history of Non Violent Direct Action (NVDA) across the world and how its benefits for change have been analysed to help build up an effective strategy for change today. \nThe training explores through discussion what is meant by “non violent” actions and how they might be enacted against people or property . It also looks at how non violent actions can be taken in creative ways to make a greater impact whilst portraying a non-violent image . \nDe-escalation skills will be taught to help rebels learn the essential skill of diffusing tensions whilst on actions.\nThe importance of forming affinity groups will be explored. There will be lots of information to learn\, and chances to engage interactively with this information – it’s a good idea to bring a pen and paper. Not only did a police officer murder Sarah\, the Police enabled the violence to take place by refusing to take reports of indecent exposure seriously and then other police officers shared graphic images while at the crime scene. \nWe have seen this before and we will see it again. We stand in solidarity and rage with Blessing Olusegun\, Bibaa Henry\, Nicole Smallman\, and so many others who have been victims of police violence. \nWe stand in solidarity with those women in Nottingham who were tricked into intimate relationships by the undercover police Mark Kennedy\, and those who are constantly let down by our inadequate and antiquated criminal justice system that protects abusers and violent men. \nWe are deeply concerned that the Police\, Crime\, Sentencing and Courts Bill seeks to further curtail the right to protest\, to gather\, and to have a voice – this is a threat to UK democracy. We share the concerns that this bill ignores recommendations from Gypsy\, Traveller and Roma community groups and rights organisations\, and that the proposed measures would be harmful and discriminatory to these communities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:🎤 The media can give us excellent opportunities to speak to a huge audience\, but can also be our enemy if we don’t know how to approach it. This interactive and practical training series gives you the tools to make the most of every encounter with the media. \n🎤 Designed for anyone in XR who deals or wants to deal with the print and broadcast (radio and TV) media\, regardless of your current level of experience. \n🎤 This is a six-part training series. There is a commitment to attend all sessions\, because learning is cumulative\, and because spaces are limited. The course includes understanding how the media works and anticipating what they want from you\, to making the most of every type of interview. \nZoom link to register \n🎤 We’ll cover off the cuff interviews during actions\, local and community radio\, press and TV interviews\, dealing with hostile interviewers\, and writing effective press releases. The time to act is now… so let’s get prepared! \nCome along to our Non-Violent Direct Action (NVDA) workshop\, where you will learn about the history of Civil Disobedience\, theories of Non-Violence\, and various NVDA skills such as how to talk to the police\, how to block a road\, and how to use your support systems. \nThis workshop takes 3hrs\, and includes 2 x 15 minute breaks – please arrive on time! There will be lots of information to learn\, and chances to engage interactively with this information – it’s a good idea to bring a pen and paper.
