DESCRIPTION:DEATH OF PROTEST = DEATH OF DEMOCRACY \nWednesday 8th 5pm\, we will do a ‘Procession of Mourning’ on the day the Lords begins to vote on the authoritarian Police\, Crime\, Sentencing and Courts Bill. \nThe procession will assemble at the Brian Clough statue in Market Square. \nCome dressed in black\, bring a jar with a tea-light. \nWe will invite activist groups from across Nottingham to join us in this sombre\, quiet\, but dignified and defiant event. \nThe PCSC Bill is a sinister move towards an authoritarian police state where even small acts of protest could invite long jail sentences\, heavy fines and control orders restricting the lives of citizens identified as protestors; this is the stuff of dystopian nightmares and must be stopped. \nRead this briefing to find out more about the Bill \nSo many of the rights and privileges we have today were won through protest and there is so much more to be done. We must be able to protest as we work towards a better future. \nStand up for democracy on Wednesday evening!

We’re inviting the public to come and enjoy a bit of free cake and tell us what they think about COP26\, the future of the planet\, consumerism and the festive period in a climate emergency. \nCome and join us! You don’t have to be an expert about the climate emergency\, just be clear about what worries you personally about it\, what sort of future you can imagine when we have come together to tackle it. DESCRIPTION:We will be joining with various other groups and movements from Nottingham for this event (which is part of a global day of action!) \nOn 6 November 2021\, as world leaders meet in Glasgow for the COP26 Global Climate Summit\, towns and cities across the world will take to the streets demanding global climate justice. \nMeet at the Forest Recreation Ground at 1pm\,\nmarching down Mansfield Road at 2pm\nand rallying in the Market Square at 3pm. \nWe are living through a period of multiple breaking points – from climate to covid to racism. We know that these crises not only overlap\, but share the same cause. 
While no one can escape the impacts of these crises\, those who have done least to cause them suffer the most. Across the world\, the poorest people and communities of colour are too often those bearing the brunt of the climate crisis. Ambitious words have been made by Ben Bradley the leader of the council but no ambitious action to match. \nTwo requests. \n1. Turn up on Thu 4th at 10am and come with us to the Pension Fund meeting which starts at 10.30am (sitting in the public gallery) \n2. Take the email action at divestnotts.org \nThe Pension Fund has £155m invested in fossil fuel companies. Incredibly it has no targets for reducing the carbon footprint of its investments. It is not aligned with limiting global warming to 1.5°C\, or anything even close. \nNottinghamshire Pension Fund must adopt ambitious climate targets to keep 1.5 alive.

That’s why we’ve designed this training so you will leave with tasks ticked out of the “contact the press” to-do list.\nDuring this training\, we will alternate between explanations and practise time\, to allow you to have a ready-to-send press release at the end of the session! \nEach trainee will be shown how to prepare:\n– a clear message for the media\n– a media list\n– a timing strategy\n– basics of a Press Release\n– preparing quotes\n– contact rebels for the press\n– immediate post-action images to go to the press \nSome pre-prepared materials will be available for you to adapt so your local media will be interested.\nA strategy will be suggested that you can follow for any future actions. \n⭐Why you should attend⭐ \nBy using the media our actions reach a much wider group than just the passers-by who observe us. \nWe can sometimes get the readers / viewers who may be interested in XR a route to contact us via an article or image. \nWith practice\, the media can be a very useful tool to engage local politicians.
