Building Better for a Better Future – All Change part 1
May 6, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
We are at last recognising that we cannot continue as before, but that leaves us very much with the question of the lifestyle we see ourselves pursuing as an alternative. Assuming our species takes the measures necessary to avert its own extinction, where do we want to sit along the spectrum ranging from complete “back to nature” (whatever that might mean) to “dominance over Nature” (our recent ambition until recently)?
“Building Better for a Better Future” is about how we envisage social infrastructure in the future. How will it enable us to survive sustainably in the long-term, and how can we design our communities so that we can give recognition to our part in and of Nature?
“Building Better for a Better Future” asks us to think more deeply about how to redesign our community infrastructures so that they answer the two major questions, “How can we avert the final catastrophe?” and “What do we need to include in our ideal community?”, as well as any other considerations we think important to us and whether or not they’d be workable. Some hope can be found in studies in Biomimicry. We will watch two quite short videos to introduce two contrasting concepts and then discuss the ideas.
Total viewing time will be about 35 minutes:
